The Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director of Africa's top casino and hotel group, Sun International, has announced that he will be stepping down from his role, effective this month.
According to Sun International, Robert Becker, will be leaving after eight years in order to "pursue other career aspirations."
Becker will be succeeded by Anthony Michael Leeming, who will take over his job from March 1st, 2013. Leeming has many years of experience in the industry and joined Sun International as its Group Financial Manager in 1999. Leeming served as a director of Sun International Management Ltd. from 2009.
As Becker retires from Sun International, it should be remembered that earlier this month, shares in Sun International rose over 4% to their highest levels in two years, after it was announced that its first half profit climbed nearly 45%.
Sun International Largest Casino Group in Africa
Sun International is considered Africa's largest hotel chain and casino destination, which focuses mainly on the Southern African region.
In 1969, South African tycoon Sol Kerzner joined forces with South African Breweries to create the Southern Sun Hotel Company. In 1983, the two entities went their separate ways and Sun International, headed by Kerzner retained the casino hotels that had been built in the then 'independent homelands'.
The Sun International chain focuses on resorts, luxury hotel products and casinos in 8 countries around the world, mainly in Africa but also in South America. There are 27 resorts that make up the Sun International chain.
According to Sun International the group is "specifically focused on the development, operation and management of hotels, resorts and casinos."
